What is this site about?

The Five Things Checklist aims at providing general information and career guidance to law students, lawyers and everyone else who cares to know more about Law and its many mysteries.

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

Honestly, if it’s left to me, I wouldn’t want to collect any of your personal information ‘cos I have no use for them. However, the nature of the internet is such that you leave footprints wherever you step. So I will try and list them out for you.

Comments

When you leave comments on my site, I receive the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. I have no friggin’ clue what to do with them, so I just let my website collect and store them.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment, only if you are using Gravatar.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year as per WordPress policy.

If you visit my site, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I am using Google Analytics to understand my site performance. They collect information like date of your visit, time you spent on my articles, where you arrived from and such. Trust me, they are all harmless information and are used to give me kicks when I see a visitor from Honduras.

Who we share your data with

I don’t share your data with anyone, except as is required for smooth running of the site.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you subscribe to my site, I also store the personal information you provide to be able to connect with you and no other purpose. I promise to send you notifications of new post and very relevant information only. No spamming. Never.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

In conclusion

This is a personal website and your data will not be misused by me for any purpose other than to run this website and remain connected with you. Hope to see you here regularly.
